Powerline Shredders - Proven Reliability - The RDF & EfW driving force

The WEIMA Powerline Shredder Series is the most versatile high capacity shredder for the recycling, Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) and Energy for Waste (EfW) industries.

Industry recognised as the most ideal all round high capacity secondary shredder in a multi-stage operation or alternatively as a single stage shredding solution for clean material streams from post industrial waste. Whether it is plastic in the form of purgings, profiles, pipes, film, fibres or paper, cardboard, electronic scrap and cables (WEEE), carpet, refuse waste or construction and demolition waste, the Powerline Series can be tailored to suit every application.

The WEIMA Powerline Shredder Series unique design features make it a worldwide proven reliable, efficient and robust high quality shredder delivering high capacity per hour shredding at a very low cost per ton. Two different versions of high torque drives are available; The WEIMA WDD (WEIMA Direct Drive) or the WEIMA HDD (Hydraulic Direct Drive) and depending on the screen size the shredding capacity ranges from 5-25 tons/hr.

You can view a video of a Powerline shredder in action on our Youtube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9rFmCz21OY and a brochure is also available to download.

Viridor adopts “a next generation” shredding system

Provided by size reduction technology specialist Fercell Engineering Limited - WEIMA UK, leading recycling, renewable energy and waste management UK company Viridor has installed a new generation single shaft shredder – the WEIMA SPIDER HRS – at its Crayford Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Kent.

Renowned as one of the largest and most efficient in Europe, Viridor’s 300,000 tonne capacity Crayford MRF applies advanced technology to sort and recover commingled recyclable materials from local councils and businesses. These quality materials are then sold on as raw materials for the manufacturing of new products and packaging.

Dave Fitzgerald, Viridor general manager for Greater London, said: “We’re constantly looking to expand the range of materials that can be accepted at our recycling facilities to help our customers improve their environmental performance by recycling more. With the installation of the latest WEIMA Spider HRS shredder, we can offer our customers the inclusion of hard rigid plastics – including utility pipes, polypropylene crates and trays – within the commingled mix for processing as well as acceptance of single-stream hard rigid plastics.”

The new shredder enables Viridor to process heavy plastic materials by polymer type to a 25-50mm fraction, thus increasing potential revenues and strengthening its ability to market this material.

Fercell Engineering Limited - WEIMA UK, UK sole distributor of WEIMA shredders and briquetters, sees this installation as a fitting milestone in celebrating a fifteen-year association with WEIMA Maschinen GmbH.

“There are more than 900 current WEIMA applications in the UK”, commented Colin Irons, national sales manager. “We are pleased that Viridor has adopted the WEIMA Spider HRS for its new hard plastics shredding operation. The recycling market continues to be one of the most demanding and we have seen a definite change to the criteria considerations during the procurement process in new capital plant. Viridor’s adoption of this truly revolutionary machine will help the company lower operating overheads, reduce maintenance downtime cycles while delivering a multi-tasking capability across differing materials.”

In answer to changing industry demands, the single-shaft WEIMA Spider HRS shredder, designed and developed by German engineering giant Weima Maschinen GmbH and first shown at the recent Dusseldorf plastic industry “K Show”, introduces a unique and innovative modular construction offering greater flexibility and an extensive list of new inclusions and improvements.

The Weima Spider 1500 is now available ex-stock UK. For more information about Fercell Engineering Ltd - WEIMA UK products and services call 0870 428 2688

Briquetting press produces rectangular briquettes with high value

Fercell Engineering Limited, sole distributors in the UK for WEIMA GmBH, introduces the BIGBertha 1500 briquetting press, producing a 150mm x 60mm briquette. The larger oblong briquette and newly developed claw technology enables wood, paper, plastic, metal or biomass to be processed into high-density rectangular briquettes. The rectangular briquette shape ensures optimum packing density during transport and storage. Additionally, the good combustion behaviour of the high-density briquettes opens up good marketing opportunities for the producer.

Attractive to the commercial briquette manufacturer seeking a high output volume machine, Weima are globally renowned as leaders in briquetter designed-in machine reliability and robustness, producing quality briquettes whether using materials such as wood, paper, cardboard or most non ferrous metals, in a continuous operation. If the material to be briquetted is fed automatically into the hopper, then no operating personnel are required, making the BIGBertha 1500 the ideal contributor to a 24 hours operation.

As operating profits are squeezed by increases in storage, transportation and the introduction of new government lead legislation the processors is eager to harness new methods to increase efficiencies. Currently to fastest growing market is wood briquetting to supply the domestic market.

Wood, straw, miscanthas and most organic biomass natural product when highly compacted as a briquettes with calorific values similar to that of coal. Burning briquettes completes the sustainability cycle on combustion, only releasing as much carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere as was originally absorbed by the growing tree during photosynthesis.

The regular oblong (150mm x 60mm) shape of the briquettes makes them easy to bag, stack and palletize - reducing lost space and minimising briquette degeneration during transport handling. A better delivered product to the end user market. We also offer the option of including your company logo embossed on the die so it is printed into all of your briquettes – a very effective marketing tool!

Weima briquetting presses reduce the volume of your waste (up to 90:01 ratio) to save on storage and haulage costs with the natural ligna in the organic material acting as the binder retaining the end resultant product “natural product status” - briquetting without an introduced binder.

Briquetting bulk waste, of which in certain conditions can self combust might be the more attractive storage option when embarking on a fire risk analysis.

The BIGBertha 1500 demonstrates its flexibility by not being restricted to processing wood or organic materials. In a recyclate processing environment production can be rapidly changed to no ferrous materials for instance; like aluminium foils, copper or aluminium swarfs. These materials create briquettes in a specially hardened form as such an operation is an excellent method to reduce volume. WEIMA size reduction technology reduces both transport and storage costs. The logistical costs and ease of handling a palletized briquetted product against a bulk bag of granulated or worse powder product is more acceptable.

The most characteristic feature of this machine is the press form in which the BIGBertha 1500 pressing operation takes place. The motion sequence of the cylinders and the form are monitored and controlled by means of a position sensor. This enables an exact positioning, during normal operation, making it impossible for the material to get stuck or jammed, reducing production down time and possible costly repair.

The material can be fed in a large storage hopper and supplied via an agitator and feeder worm screw system. The pressing operation takes place in the closed form, thus extremely high material densities can be achieved.

Our bespoke machine test facility offers prospective customers the unique opportunity to run their own material tests prior to commitment. Try Before You Buy

Fercell Engineering Limited of Aylesford, Kent, sole distributors of WEIMA shredders and briquetters in the UK and Ireland, will be holding our final “Open Week” for 2011 commencing 26th September 2011.

Reputedly the largest bespoke test and training centre in the UK, to include shredders, briquetters and ancillary bagging and ducting systems, this open invitation is complementary, and limited only by the number of trials that can be squeezed into a week. These twice yearly events are very well attended and if as lively as the March event it will be most successful.

Providing prospective customers with the opportunity to run a machine trial using their own materials for further evaluation prior to making a purchasing decision, is core to our business model philosophy

Whether a stand alone or turn-key system requirement call Colin Irons today to book your trial, discuss your requirement on 0870 428 2688.
